It came from a distant past, as an expression of the essence of ancient religions and later became an element of oriental decor in different forms and shapes.
These items have been inspired by the combination of two ornaments – buta and islimi.
Buta is one of the oldest and most liked oriental designs. The meaning of buta is interpreted in various ways from pinecone and palmcrown to flame, which had religious significance as a symbol of immanence and eternal life.
Islimi is a favourite Islamic decorative theme which may be described as a splitleaf called “islimi” also known as “arabesque” or “tendril”. Islimi is one of the popular ornaments in Azerbaijan.
